The linearity is palpable. The game I played immediately before was Assassin's Crees Origins (the only of that series I've played), and though it's also about stealth revenge murdering everyone, it's openness makes it feel less heavy-handed.

I wonder if they ever discussed using the Days Gone engine. Or maybe ND just likes really everything boxed in by rock hard shrubbery that funnels you from one scripted sequence to another?

And not to spoil the story, but it went basically how I thought it would. I dunno, I wish there had been some twists or surprises. Part 1 left me with this adrenaline rush of like, "did all that fucked up shit really just happen?" whereas this game leaves me feeling kinda down.

I feel like the ending should have let you decide that. Like the whole game teaches you things yet the ending contradicts what you've learned and just does it anyway. It would show the player has grown if it had an active decision that changed the ending of the game.

I felt the same way about the first game.

I felt the same way about it, but it's grown on me the longer I've sat with it since beating it.

Maybe I should wait before commenting further... just felt eager to share something I guess

A branching game could have worked but it's more difficult to make sequels I think
