A lot of what I've spent my time on so far is my own parallax system, with a position (mouse or arbitrary) that shows where everything sits in relation to each other. I don't think I would have spent this much time on it but I have very specific plans for illustrated backgrounds

My editor is built into the game and lets me cycle through parallax layers, hiding the ones in front .. its not bad but needs some onion skinning or something to aid positioning - instant toggle between game play and editor though

I do it by hand. But my games don't look a fraction as good as yours do.

Well, I also do it by hand. Just returning to my occasional internal debate of whether I really need a tool ... would possibly take longer to make the tool than the amount of time I'd save using it?

I'm working on a level editor that has that feature planned. I've also been doing it by hand though.
