It honestly gets easier as you go. I thought the same thing, and remember having problems in Alan Wake, too, at the start.
Why can't Control have an easy mode? Were previous remedy games as difficult? It really makes the game less fun.

I finished the game but I don’t remember dying this many times in Max Payne or Alan Wake. Although AW DLC was a bit hard if I recall correctly

Max Payne is WAY harder than you remember! We often forget but that game was quickload - quicksave city.

Once you get over the hump it gets easier. That first boss fight is really hard but it’ll make you better at the game!

Yeah that first boss fight is really upsetting my time with the game. Haven’t gone back because of it. I want to push through it, but it’s hard knowing it’s such a ridiculous difficulty spike.

i feel you. some of those side missions are brutal. as were the polaris sections. the third platform i just ended up sniping (pierce) from the previous platform. felt cheesy. but man what a absolute mind-fuck of a great game.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that all games should have a tourist mode or smth similar. For those of us who just want to enjoy the game/world without having to worry about being good. Parents, people with busy lives and those who just enjoy the medium would all benefit I think

I was actually pleasantly surprised that Doom Eternal almost encourages you to use the collectible cheat codes if you’re having trouble. I wish one or two were just available from the start, but the first one you can get is infinite lives.
