you ever run into a tech problem that feels actually fucking impossible to solve properly, but somehow old SNES games managed to do it, so you know that not only is it not impossible to solve, but should also be pretty easy if hardware that old could manage it
That is what I was thinking...I've not played it but looking a screenshots it seems like the terrain mostly is higher at the top of the screen with only a few tiles bucking the trend for variety.

yeah they're just careful about where they place those tiles, they're spread out enough that character objects will never be "tall enough" to be in between, see the red haired girl, im assuming each grid pos has which layer objects on top of it should be onpic.twitter.com/Qcs4kjNd4K
