Google introduced an "algorithm" based cutout that was really unambiguously designed to let YouTube bypass the autoplay block without it looking like Google was giving themselves special treatment. But because it was "algorithm" based multiple news sites qualified for it :(

I thnk you can get an html video blocker? CNN's autoplay is why I 1) installed an adblocker at all then 2) just stopped going to CNN. I hate it. I'd go to CNN if they didn't have the autoplay, it's awful.

Have you tried Silent Site Sound Blocker? It doesn't stop the video, but it keeps the website muted until whitelisted.

I cannot stand the autoplaying videos. Guess I’m a weird person who’d rather read the new article than watch the video.

not only that, if you visit the site on the phone, it will autoplay the video while muting the sound and without our realisation... hello BIG bills -_-;

Larger question: what is the benefit of forced autoplay? Why go to such lengths to force someone who doesn’t want to watch a video? We’re not going to watch it no matter what. All you are doing is annoying people and making them avoid your site
