I'll need more time to read details, but this seems a massive ruling in France saying that Valve has to allow resale of digital games. If this ruling stands/spreads to other places it'll ripple through what games get made and how the same way Twitch did.https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/d6cclt/steam_valve_is_convicted_in_france_for_banning/f0s5wso/ …

First thoughts is that this would be a big win for subscription-based game platforms, and a huge step to further continue the shift towards service-based games. Singleplayer games would become even riskier to make, as multiplayer is generally a piracy-deterrent.

If this stays localized to France, I'm honestly not sure if digital storefronts will find it worthwhile to stay in France. Having to create & moderate that ecosystem in such a way that it stays localized to France sounds like a ton of work for what is no gain to Valve or devs?

Anyway, we'll see, I guess! This is a whole can of worms, and these are just immediate musings on breaking news. I'll need some time to read the details, figure out the context, and settle my thoughts. What a strange and sudden shift in everything, kinda why I love games tho'.

I just realized I need to set a skip inbox filter for '+blockchain +france' on my mailbox because there's a genuine flood coming.

So, like, do Apple Store and iTunes and other storefronts allow resale in France? Or is it just video games?
