I had surgery. Then I had to go back in for complications. Same surgeon, hospital. I got an unexpected $4000 bill for the second one. Turns out the anesthesiologist on the second trip to OR was covered by my insurance. Thankfully that’s illegal in NY.

My mom actually worked for Blue Cross, she was diagnosed with Cancer last year and eventually got to the point she couldn't work, couldn't walk, couldn't even sleep for the pain she was in. Time after time her insurance denied procedures and pain meds.

They had all the proof they needed, both through the typical insurance channels and through her actual work, which she was on disability leave from. They denied her cause "it wasnt serious enough", she died 7 months after being diagnosed, in severe pain and trauma.

health care insurance sucks. it is a pain to deal with for the consumer and has a profit model based on the insurance companies attempting not to pay out.
