Can anyone think of 2d platformers that have good or at least better than average AI? Mark of the Ninja and Shadow Complex come to mind for me, trying to come up with others.

Do you count 2D stealth platformers in general? Both Shadow Complex and Mark of the Ninja only have smart AI to facilitate the stealth playstyle. If so, Ronin, Gunpoint, Oddworld, Swindle, and those 2D Assassin's Creed games would count too.
Sure. I find it more interesting when stealth is optional but it does seem that outside of Shadow Complex most 2d platformers are either all stealth or none
