The more I use it the more I think that it would be a lot more helpful highlighting all code in the same scope at the same color, so I can easily be like, "oh yeah, the purple code up here goes with this other purple code down there"

Well they always are colored in the same order so theoretically you get used to thinking "orange always *belongs* to purple and purple always *belongs* to light green"
