I rarely replayed stuff myself, and even less so now that I'm a pseudo-famous game critic. Any time I spend on stuff from the past is time I'm not spending on stuff from the present that can possibly affect the futures of those developers. If I go retro, it's to gain context.
Yeah, I do end up loading my old games just to see how they handled controls or ui or something... not really the same thing though

For example, if I play a game based on Sinistar, I need to go back and play Sinistar for context. I'm not the same age group as most of my readers, who are on average 10 years older than me (that's 2 - 3 full console generations), and I actually need the context. Ethically too.
