Confession: As an adult I almost never replay games, reread books, or even re watch movies. Just feels like there is too much new stuff to experience instead. I find first and second time reading/watching/playing so different I like to do it if I can. But again, too many games, so little time...

You get several ah ha moments on a second playthrough. Things you didn’t realize you could do early on the first time. Often lead to secrets/Easter eggs. Not all media is worth a repeat.

I rarely replayed stuff myself, and even less so now that I'm a pseudo-famous game critic. Any time I spend on stuff from the past is time I'm not spending on stuff from the present that can possibly affect the futures of those developers. If I go retro, it's to gain context.

Yeah, I do end up loading my old games just to see how they handled controls or ui or something... not really the same thing though

I feel the exact same way, sometimes I purposely miss extra content to incentivize a second playthrough

Fun fact: when I was younger, I restarted Wario Land 3 after 2hs because I got stuck on the 3rd level and wanted to try with a fresh mind. Years later, had to restart FF X-2 because I set myself in a corner (too low level on chap4 - impossible to go on)

I did restart FFVIII because the first time I only used the summons and never leveled up my characters. Took me like 10 years to work up the urge to try again, though

"Just beat this 100 hour game, time to play it all over again!!!" I'll never understand it. That, and also I end up... knowing everything that happens already? So trying to replay through the thing I just beat ends up being boring. I'd rather move on to something new.
