Use cases: Dodging attacks that would hit you standing up (like AV) or the edge case of stealthily trying to go up and down stairs (where pressing up tells you to go up on the stairs and down tells you to go down as in Castlevania)

Literally dealing with this exact question now! I decided to tie it to 'hold' on dodge roll. So tap dodges and hold transitions into crawl. Not super happy with it as it means entering crawl also moves you forward a bit (as part of the roll). Seen here:https://twitter.com/matthughson/status/1024522136533135360 …

Late reply, but in 2d I like holding down, I answered the poll from the perspective of a 3D game (in which case I like a toggle with a button press)
