Use cases: Dodging attacks that would hit you standing up (like AV) or the edge case of stealthily trying to go up and down stairs (where pressing up tells you to go up on the stairs and down tells you to go down as in Castlevania)

I like a toggle where jumping pulls me out of the crouch, in case I'm spotted and need to react quickly.

Now there are 2 answers for me. If playing on PC, i like holding down the Ctrl key to crouch walk. (FPS) If playing on console, i like pressing down on the Dpad in that direction to crouch walk (2d platformers).

No right joystick click to toggle? Otherwise, some sort of toggle, then sprint cancels toggle.

I don't ever want to hold down a button while doing other things. Toggle is always best

I like the physical tension of holding the button.

Yeah honestly context is definitely key, but I guess the context was a 2d game, in which case I'd argue for a toggle (down on dpad being pretty standard)
