So is "Las Vegas" trending just because I live in Las Vegas?

Not always but sometimes. It depends if there is something going on in the city, but yes, I do see my city trending now and again. I think you manage this in your settings by configuring whether trends are localized or global (maybe?)

I use my adblocker to hide the trending sidebar so I never have to see it!

Seems like it. Twitter wants me to read about Boston.

Well, i suspect that actually means lots of people in los vegas are talking about los vegas, but, i have my trend location set to Kuala Lumpur*, and I notice "malaysia" is trending * You can't turn off the trend box but you can set it to a place whose language you don't speak

They still speak a lot of English there, though...

Yes. Every so often I see {Abbreviated name of college close to where I live} every so often. Unless there's some sort of major accident/threat/weather advisory, I really wish I didn't have to see anything related to where I live.

I see both my city and state frequently. Which is funny since almost none of the things I am interested in happen in either of those places.

Sometimes, yeah. I used to see “San Bruno” pop up in the trending bar a lot, and usually nothing was going on to warrant it
-
Yeah I saw it pop up and was like "I hope there wasn't another shooting" but no, just tweets by Cirque du Soleil and stuff
