The most important #COVID19 statistic for thinking about our public policy response is that 43% of all U.S. deaths have taken place among 0.6% of the population: those who live in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. https://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2020/05/26/nursing-homes-assisted-living-facilities-0-6-of-the-u-s-population-43-of-u-s-covid-19-deaths/#3fa9c8e74cdb … @Forbespic.twitter.com/Q83HXPuGkJ

To those asking about NY: I do discuss, in the article, NY's massaging of the numbers by not counting deaths in hospitals of nursing home residents. Key question for comparing NY to other states is: how many (and which) other states do the same thing?

On the positive side, I highlight Florida in the article. @GovRonDeSantis' team in Florida was on top of the nursing home problem in the beginning, and has the results to show for it. Read @RichLowry's interview of DeSantis for even more detail:https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/05/coronavirus-crisis-ron-desantis-florida-covid-19-strategy/ …

A non-New York example of how different reporting methods have drastic effects on the stats. Previously, in Ohio, the nursing home death stats only looked at deaths after April 15. Once they looked at deaths prior, nursing home share went from 41% to 70%.https://freopp.org/the-covid-19-nursing-home-crisis-by-the-numbers-3a47433c3f70 …

Are you focused on the unusually high pneumonia deaths in Florida? Any chance those could be Covid?

Florida had plenty of lead time to have strict guidelines for nursing homes before the virus hit them. They could keep patents in the hospital instead of sending them back to facility because their hospitals were not overwhelmed. Places like New York did not have that luxury.
