  1. If everything is under control and China has enough supplies to contain the outbreak Why is it profitable to buy medical masks here in Australia (at far higher prices than normal China retail) and ship them back to China?

  2. - Singapore's govt has already started a stimulus to support its economy due to the coronavirus - Japan, Thailand & Malaysia are either planning or publicly considering a stimulus Meanwhile in Oz the focus today was on the Nationals leadership spill

  3. China is one of the largest medical grade face mask manufacturing nations in the world. Even after resuming greater production after the lunar new year, they are making just 10 million masks a day. Beijing alone needs 21 million a day.

  4. Hyundai has suspended one of its production lines due to a shortage of parts which are supplied from China. A perfect example of how a single break in the global supply chain echoes around the world. There will be more of this in coming days/weeks.

  6. Another day, another retailer gone. Accessory chain 'Colette' has collapsed into voluntary administration - 140 stores at risk of closure across Australia & New Zealand - More than 300 jobs could be lost Likely a sign of things to come

  7. Nationals leader Michael McCormack wins the leadership spill by just one vote. If this plays out similarly to recent Liberal leadership contests, his leadership may be mortally wounded by this lack of support, in the same way Turnbull was finished with a second spill.

Canavan on “We’ve still got people that want people to shut down the coal industry” He suggests McCormack hasn’t fought for coal fired power enough, and hasn’t fought the Liberals enough. This is Morrison’s worst nightmare.

  10. My latest interview with Martin North In which we discuss the impact of the coronavirus and the recent developments in politics (up until this arvo) It didn't take long for our predictions about Barnaby and the Nationals leadership to come to pass.

  11. Fascinating paper forecasting the duration of the coronavirus epidemic. If these researchers are correct the outbreak may not peak in China until April. That seems like a long time away right now.

  12. 94% of infrastructure grants awarded to electorates held or targeted by the LNP That seems fair 🤦‍♂️ This may be McCormack's undoing as leader of the Nationals, especially with Barnaby Joyce signalling just this morning that he wants his old job (and pay cheque) back.

New York Times: Hospitals in Wuhan are running out of test kits and sending people home with fever. Residents say the situation is worse than reported.

  14. Aussie 'beer tax' 17 times higher than Germany's after new increase "A massive 42 per cent of the retail price on a carton of beer is tax," Well ScoMo this tax hike certainly doesn't pass the pub test 🤔

  15. Today the Dalian (Chinese) commodity exchange reopened after the Lunar New Year holiday/extended break due to the coronavirus. Iron ore prices immediately crashed and the market had to be closed. The cost to the Australia economy of that drop over 12 months ~$4.7 billion

  16. Greens Leader Richard Di Natale is resigning as both the leader of the party & will retire from parliament entirely in the coming months He said "Being away for half the year from a young family has just become, for me, too difficult" Good luck to him 👍

  17. While this is Labor's biggest lead so far It took the govt leaving the borders open with the public protected with nothing more than a pamphlet and the LNP being dodgy with tens of millions in grant funding, to get it.

  18. Hong Kong medical workers have voted to begin a 5 day strike, after the HK govt refused to close all entry points from the mainland A perfect example of how govts must be more mindful of the public's concerns about the virus, otherwise people will start making decisions for them

  19. News websites with paywalls should make all articles related to the coronavirus free and open to the public There have already been articles that have scared people because all they had access to was the headline. Many did it for the bushfires, the same should be done here.

  20. Deputy Nationals leader Bridget McKenzie has resigned due to a conflict of interest in her awarding her local shooting club a govt grant. Importantly, the Morrison govt still claims no wrong doing as a result of the 'Sports Rorts' saga.
