However, within the same argument, an easy mode would not kill the game. What would happen is that players who want to could choose, just like games allow you to have more difficult modes.

Followup opinion - it is also a selling point. The difficulty and the fact that not everyone can/will complete it is not a bug, its a feature. The kotaku article glosses over the "FROM winners" club, but that is a very real reason the series and studio has done SO WELL lately.

So...well, yeah. An easy mode may directly be a detriment to a FROM game in the same general family tree as Souls. Now, had they started with an easy mode, maybe this story is different. Almost assuredly. But this late in the game?
