Have to take ownership to make the update, no? So it would be an extra step to "push" the cache line back to its previous owner?

Do a remote write. Instead of sending a read-for-ownership packet, send a write-this-word-here-if-you-are-the-owner packet. Cache line doesn't move. (if the cache line is shared, or doesn't exist in any cache, fall back to read-for-ownership)

Maybe it's time to dump cache coherence? Assume that when someone wants to write to memory then language/runtime/developer ensures that it cannot logically be used by any other thread so no need to do MOESI. There still must be a way to comm. between cores (message passing?).
