  3. The creation of the Civil Rights Office stemmed from a June 2018 resolution from Greg Casar and co-sponsored by Mayor Adler, Ann Kitchen and Delia Garza. Aim of office includes ensuring adherence to fair chance hiring, anti-discrimination and wage protections.

  4. New: Carol Johnson, Austin's first ever Civil Rights Officer, will make $139,006.40 annually, according to public records request. Johnson started Feb. 16 at the height of the winter storm. She's eligible for $15k housing allowance and a house hunting trip for up to seven days.

    Today, the Austin City Council will vote on a one-time $10 credit for all Austin Energy residential customers because of the power outages in last month's winter freeze. The credit will be issued on customers' first bill after March 19.

    Austin Energy really patted itself on the back for its communication efforts during the storm. Pio Renteria, who lost power and was without internet access, said he had to resort to a transistor radio for updates. "You can post whatever you want. We're not going to see it."

    Prior to ERCOT-directed outages, as many as 33,000 Austin homes were without power at a single peak time. Many were in NW Austin. Austin Energy got that number down to 822 before rising to 220,000 with ERCOT shed mandate.

    Austin Energy GM Jackie Sargent is addressing city council oversight committee right now. Sargent says in 2011 storm AE was ordered by ERCOT to shed 158 megawatts of electricity. This year, AE shed more than 700 megawatts.
