You would think the most promising pool for us to hire instructors out of would be University professors, but it's *very* difficult to find someone in academia that can wrap their minds around creating and teaching according to an objectives-based curriculum.

Look for good teachers in State and community colleges, and competitive high schools. Clark Kerr's labeling of the 'cruel paradox' that "a superior faculty results in an inferior concern for undergraduate teaching" is both decades old and evergreen.

Yup. Stanford and Berkeley are a total bust. That's good advice.

Finding people from industry that can teach is easier than finding professors that can teach something practical

Look at the pool locked out of good university positions- adjuncts, visitings, people finishing PhDs where there are 100 great candidates per position. They're hungry, qualified, and just need the right pitch to open their eyes to other ways of teaching/making an impact.

We only recruit from industry professionals. That’s what makes sense for vocational training. CS only peeps generally lack basic professional grade things like using a linter.

Actually, I can see that. They have lived so long with a different set of criteria. But they may know of younger ones, or currently-employed folk, who would be great for this.
