Message I got a couple days ago: “Hey Austen, I have three companies wanting to interview me in New York; I arranged them so they’re back to back, I’m just trying to scrape the funds together to buy a flight and hotel...” People that are new to tech aren’t used to comped travel
-
-
I’ve been in tech for over a decade and I’d only assume travel is comped for the biggest companies, anyone else and I’d expect it to be explicit
-
It should always be explicit, either way.
-
I've never in my life applied for a company in any field that comps travel. This is news to me.
-
It seems to be a cultural thing - in both the industry and location senses. That is part of the problem, if you aren't already in those cultures you don't know about it. Hence my statement that it should always be explicit.
