LA Times today, advocating that being a designer should be regulated and licensed. Basically: “What I do is very important; more important than what other people do. People should be required to receive training I never received. Also growth = cancer meme.” GFYpic.twitter.com/vquSPgSW7V

Hi Austen, Great post. If schools are not successful at teaching, the best alternative might be to *not go to school at all* I’m not a designer, but a CS major at a prestigious university and even there I feel like what is being taught != what will get you hired

"I paid $100k to an institution that didn't use that money on what its stated purpose is." hmmm maybe we should regulate deans before coders

Guy is upset he paid $100K when 50% of what he learned is freely available on YouTube or design blogs. He selfishly wants to prevent his competitors from potentially surpassing him in ability. So through "accreditation" he'll carve out job security. He's poison.

Besides being a thinly disguised cartel I guess the “design license” is going to be how to avoid amplifying right wing voices, how it’s unethical to do design for right wingers , etc ? I mean, what is this really for ?

So he is basically implying that we need another wage bubble like we have in medical industry where professionals keep doors as close as possible to increase their own wages. With all online education available I don't see it's gonna happens especially in creative fields.

Medicine, Law, and then there's design. Definitely makes sense to regulate such a sensitive field. Can't believe we've let people draw pictures without the proper regulation for this long. Think back in human history, think of all the horrible design!pic.twitter.com/1TKjmVuRUY
