What else would you do all day?
-
Play with kids. Edit Wikipedia. Travel. Take photos. Tend garden. Read books. Learn video editing.
-
What about your 2nd week?
-
Sure, I will have written or expanded hundreds of thousands of encyclopedia articles and taken and added tens of thousands of photos in a week.

What if the goal upon reaching that point is not to stop working but rather to choose work based on considerations other than covering current expenses?

Having the option to retire young is great in every way. Stop learning and building young is terrible/sad

What if we change the definition of "retirement" from "no more work" to "you don't depend on work to afford life, and you can dedicate your time to do what you love"?

I “experimented with retirement” for a summer back in 2006. Because of that, quitting work someday is no longer a goal.

Have always liked Alan Watts’ college entrance exam idea. No tests, no grades. Just a 20 pg paper on what you really want in your life. “What sort of situation would you like to be in?”

I worked 4 hours a day for three years, all from home. I got deep into mountain and road cycling, and I'd do more of that now instead of 60hr workweeks trying to launch my next thing.

Probably such a common dream because most people hate what they do/ don’t love what they do?

I did that at the age of 34. It’s overrated. Better to have a cause and things youre passionate about. Sitting on a beach or playing golf day after day isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
