i figure this is the source of the backlash against Peterson. his manta of /maybe clean your fucking room, straighten out your immediate surroundings, before running around cosplaying like you can save the entire fucking world/ causes too much cognitive dissonance w/ SF techprogs

Used to live at 8th & Minna (1/2 block from where this video is). Very rough area. The homeless problem is massive in SF and is exacerbated by the ghetto being in the center of the city (Tenderloin) and spills into SOMA b/w 5th-10th st. It's gotten worse over time. Not better.
-
Same for Mission. There’s a tortured soul tweaking outside my apartment right about now and I live in the “nicer” bit of Mission.

Downtown Seattle looks the same.
-
I spent several hours walking around downtown Seattle yesterday and didn't see anything like this (and I *lived* downtown from 2013-2016 and also never saw it then)
-
Here’s the tent city in pioneer square/first hill 2 blocks from our apt. His weekend. check out anything in pioneer square, cbd, pike/pine corridor, etc.pic.twitter.com/kHMOl7amAO

agreed the tent cities (and Pioneer Square) are terrible, but I walked Pacific Place -> CBD -> Alaskan Way (by the Great Wheel) -> up to the market -> Pike/Pine and didn't see anything like that downtown
-
3rd and Pike is pretty gross, but I don't remember ever seeing people shooting up there
-
Market in SF is on a different level then 3rd. Yes, we have a homeless issues in Seattle but man, SF is just rough.
-
Granted, this is like on man who is on fire turning to another man who is on fire and saying "At lest im not as on fire as you!"

“Filled with millions of good-hearted people” True. “determined to stop inequality” Not so sure.

hard to build more shelters and mental health facilities when you can't build literally anything

I do not understand how the residents get more upset about Trump's Twitter rants than what they see on the streets everyday. It is as though managing their home is beneath them.

And yet, Californians continue to reelect the same corrupt politicians over and over again. They get tired of living in an urban hellhole and decide to move elsewhere, electing more corrupt politicians who enact the same failed policies.

Maybe that street is filled with the good-hearted people who have been displaced by others flocking to the billion dollar companies who aren’t so concerned about inequality.
