In the first and only “entrepreneurship” class I took in college the professor showed us how to delay all of our emails until 3 AM so everyone would think we work all night

Why was it important that people think you work all night again?

Because how else would you crush it if you’re not staying up working all night?

:groan: I can't believe a college professor thought this was worth ... teaching?

Ummm...what?! I’d be pretty pissed if I paid good money to have a professor teach me to “play pretend” hard work

The real lesson: hard work isnt glamorous, it’s more about delivering consistently on a daily basis when people (clients, employees, etc) have grown to rely on your skills, talents, etc. and yes, I overused etc

I do the opposite; schedule midnight emails to hit in the mornings to respect others’ inbox hours.

I'll admit, I'm a night owl. I'm cranking at that hour because there are no distractions. I used to hold off on emails, but now I trust people to manage their alerts. 🤷‍♂️

Understandable if it’s 1-2 cofounders. I’m talking team and department-wide emails. And external emails.

True. But you know what's interesting? I hardly ever use the email anymore. Not nearly as much as I used to.

All right, one last thought and then I got to get to bed... I often want my SMS app to be able to queue up a message for the morning. I want to send something but I worry I'll wake somebody. And yet, I want them to have it by morning (and I know I'm not going to be awake) 😁

. . . yea, but did you use it? 😂 The “hustle all night” culture is fun and exciting early on, but creates miserable expectations and an unhealthy culture as a company grows.
