Also, incredibly frustrating to me that when you say you learn something outside of academia people assume you’re incapable of reading. That’s one of the methods of learning these things...

Well, I sure don’t think that, but, there’s a lot of value and respect to be had by acknowledging work that’s been done in area by someone else, like saying, “wow! I didn’t know this, & found it in my experience & it turns out there’s all kinds of research that also shows it...”

It doesn't happen only in education. One reason that we have so much bad computer software is that so many people are self taught and contemptuous of formal knowledge. The same is true of the building trades.

The reverse is also true - academics who think the only way you can learn is within the walls of a university. We all have access to the same books.

But you’re not presenting yourself as an expert on “literally anything”; you’re presenting yourself (intentionally or not) as an expert in education b/c you started a school.

I’m saying “here are things I have learned.” There are a variety of ways I’ve learned them.
