Self-taught is much more difficult, and therefore has the advantage of selection bias: if you can learn that way you are incredible.

IME it almost never counts for much in an interview. The interviews I have are just interested if you know a certain body of knowledge, whether you got that from self-taught, bootcamp, or college. But that body varies from company to company, and that makes career planning hard
