I get it -- trains and trucks may be driverless by then. Still will not be the case to accurate say "everything happens online." Again, nothing of lasting importance happens online. Real life happens ... offline.

Imo colocation as default is just a relic of past best practices. The logical evolution of digital work is to work remotely and meet in person regularly as needed. Most of us already do but in various extremes. Btw we won't "work remote" the same way we don't "go online".

I’ve noticed being in the same physical place with collaborators increases productivity & motivation significantly. VR helps a bit, but not enough. Any ideas for solutions?

Pawn shops will cluster across the street from each other. Clothing stores will all share the same mall. Electronics sellers in China will all cluster in the same bazaar. Maybe it's not that surprising?

A significant reason the Facebook was able to scale like it did was its ability to steal experienced people from Google just "down the street". SpaceX and JPL are about 30 miles away from each other. It matters who does the work and those people tend to cluster
