With the caveat that a four year degree in a leisure subject is not necessarily a better opportunity. Does @LambdaSchool recruit out in flyover country, or are you still focused more on the Bay Area?

My wife grew up in a rural area and her family still lives there. I see this a lot when we're there. The divide seems to be, at least in part, dependent on if HS grads plan on remaining in a rural area. Most of the jobs in those areas don't need a degree, so why bother?

Also, college is teetering on the edge of becoming a luxury good. Many rural families aren't exactly flush with cash, and many are wary of taking on debt, so lots opt out.
