Our neighbors are trying to get us to get our 2.5 year old into to “the best preschool” in town with their son. They advertise placement in the best prep schools that lead to the ivy leagues. It’s $1200/month, 3 days/week. For three year olds. The waitlist is hundreds of people.

Well, their kids are competing against other Asian-American kids to get into Ivy League schools. Your kids are only competing against white kids. You can afford to be complacent about their future.

I grew up around high-stakes pre-school and competitive play groups. And I can tell you first hand that none of it makes any difference in the long run.
