I think Twitter is missing a huge opportunity by not positioning themselves as a middleman for paid real time content and distribution/permissions. Users could set rates and usage restrictions in advance, then not have to reply to all these while in a high stress situation.

They aren't missing any opportunity. A. Media are not going to pay non professional photographers for content. B. Even if they were it would be tiny amount of $ barely rounding error on Twitter revenue.

Good points. A. a lot of media models are moving this way and introducing payment to non-pros might spur a huge increase in community sourcing/contribution B. I agree currently on random news events, but was thinking more if it scaled globally & drove more primary source sharing
