It’s weird to think about, but IMO the likelihood that my son graduates from a traditional four-year university is very low. Close to zero?

Hmmmm. Maybe more on the latter , what happens to 4 year institutions in 18 years. They merely vanish?

I wonder about this myself. Also: whether or not my young kids will ever drive a car. They’re 3 and 5. I think it’ll be close.

Current uni is a very old system that a lot of people buy into, I think it will become less of a requirement but I don't think it will disappear by then.

By 2036-2040: zero chance of needing a 4 year degree for anything other than socialization skills.

I am self taught and I can understand why would you say that. but, often feel I don't have a network as strong as an MIT or Stanford alum. it might be okay if you are looking for a job but, it is stupendously more HARD to do a startup with co founders who aren't from your school.

My roommates have 2 kids and they said they learn more from hanging out with me when i'm working on my projects than they do the whole week in school. It's crazy the level of education/skill you can get outside of the traditional avenues

It does seem crazy, but you're right. If I had a child today, unless they received a scholarship to an elite school, it just makes more sense "value for money" wise to explore alternatives (including things like Lambda School.) You can learn a lot on Udemy, as well, for low cost.
