When people say the junior developer market is flooded that's 100% true. The key is that it's completely flooded with people that cannot code. At all.

Austen, if a person cannot code at all, why do you think that he/she will be looking for a developer job?

Because someone charged them $10,000 and told them they're ready for one

Okay, Austen. I had a very good answer for you but you definitely got me on that one. You are right, someone charged them a lot of money, walked them through something quickly & told them they are ready & they believe the person. Sometimes, that person is an accredited university

The part that is tragic to me is when they don't even really enjoy it, but they were told they can make a career in it

Are there any good alternatives though? Especially for younger people there don’t seem to be too many options for folks with just a 4 year degree or less.

I guess what I am getting at is, if it wasn't in your blood somehow before, you'll never be that great at it. There is some other quality that is hard to measure.

Definitely not questioning the tragedy of the situation. The basic tools for developing software are biased. Ideally technology and the jobs that rely on it would evolve to be more inclusive, empowering, and intuitive. Not there yet though, and who knows when/if we will get there

They took an 8 week course. They can code. That’s how it works, right?

Totally!!!! Why code when you can "create-react-app"?

It's sad because many companies aren't willing to take a gamble on any junior devs. So many bad apples. #wewerealljunioronce

Over here on the operations side we have a ton of people who talk a good game but can't troubleshoot. It's frustrating.
