I hear everybody hate on Ayn Rand's writing. I first read Atlas Shrugged in its French translation – and then its English version, before I really spoke it, so I got nothing to say against the writing, but liked the ideas.

Btw, interesting fact: Atlas Shrugged first translation in French was a pirate one, made by a professional translator who spent a full year off, literally 365 days, 0 days of break, to translate it on her own dime. Forced the publisher to finally release an official translation.

There is so much that is interesting from a personality psychology perspective. E.g. Why are all these entrepreneurs going to cocktail parties with emotionally abusive communists and smoking cigarettes, feeling contempt I should write a blog post about it.

So many people I respect find it inspirational, I’m just like okay I get it the world doesn’t understand your genius do we need another 1,000 pages of this?

It's not though. It's pretty sensitive in its depiction of human behaviour. What it is is heavy handed, and shamelessly judgemental

Heavy handed is the best way to describe it. If it were non fiction I’d eat it up, but not hard to depict a lone genius ina forest of fools in fiction. Too easy.

Funny thing is I agree the heroes are heavy handed, but the "older" I get, the more I think her villains are right on point. There are quotes from French politicians you just wouldn't be able to tell apart from Atlas Shrugged excerpts.

Another interesting thing about Atlas Shrugged: the backstories seem to be set in a happier time. Like it's mentioned Rearden was at one point some kind of tech celebrity. And there's also this bit about stagnation of pop culture, where they stop making new cigarette brands
