I spent two years in eastern Ukraine only using the Internet for 30 minutes a week. I could almost *feel* my mind slow down; I could concentrate on anything for hours at a time no problem.

How fast did you revert to an attention deficit on returning to typical usage? Or were the effects permanent?

Almost instantly. I don’t think any of it is permanent in either direction.

Came home, got in Facebook for the first time in two years, zoned out for like six hours. Scared the hell out of me.

After I stepped back from running my company, it took me 10 days in hawaii before I could sit and read for more than an hour. For almost a decade there was too much to do in the company to really sit and read and I lost the skill. It's slowly coming back a year in.
