I think the solution is easy just not cheap: make college free via federal funding just keep the testing standards high and provide remedial schools for those that don’t make the mark. Those that the system doesn’t help can be served by private institutions like yours.

What you’re proposing then is to make college like public schools? That would too do absolutely nothing to control ridiculous cost growth and, like our current system, do nothing to improve results. Bravo ...

It seems to work in other countries. Why are coats rising so much? Maybe we address that. Isn’t it a fact that a more educated populace lifts us all? I’m not saying making tuition free is the only or best solution but it is one.

It’s expensive here because the gov guarantees student loans no matter what so there’s an infinite amount of money flowing into loans regardless of anything. Of course that makes tuition rise.

It’s an interesting subject to debate but as any complex system there’s a ton of variables so I’m leery of anyone with a silver bullet solution. Perhaps though students getting art history degrees are costing the system more than those who get accounting degrees.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m one who is happy to admit I don’t have answers. I chose my career based on what I was good at. I took no traditional path to get where I am and I’ve never taken a loan out for any of my education.

It’s almost as if there are a large number of people that literally borrowed way too much money for degrees that they couldn’t get jobs with.

1) Spending $200000 to do a worthless degree does this. 2) College is portrayed as a party life. As such there are significant failure rates in subjects leading to extended stay. 3) Not all degrees are equal: STEM > everything else.

Some never pay back loans because they won’t deny themselves anything, even if it is to keep their word and repay lenders.
