The fact that in the US antitrust is not a thing anymore is all I need to be in favor of Net Neutrality.
-
US antitrust isn’t a thing? How’s that?
-
AT&T is almost back to what it was before breaking up. Most buildings in cities have a single ISP or nothing. Crazy uncommon just US things.

Personally have been on the fence for a while. Having worked at an ISP I now know it's quite simple, ISP want pricing power to charge power users more. With net neutrality they can do that. They will create packages for "you mom" with Netflix & Co, rest will be priced out.
-
Also many ISP offer cable as well. If they can charge extra for streaming they can either kill Netflix & Co or blackmail them into paying more. --> it’s all about the money. That’s it. Will result in fragmented pricing w/ higher cost for most ppl. Otherwise ISP wouldn't do it

The crux of the issue is that ISPs want legal monopoly/oligopoly without regulation. If they don't want regulation, give them a free market where competition isn't outlawed. Can't have it both ways.

The only coherent arguments against what we can net neutrality relate to congestion charges, when data highways are overloaded, but mainly that should lead to an argument for municipal ISP, since ISP monopolies are under-investing in the networks

One thing for sure, the FCC has done a terrible job addressing legitimate concerns. No evidence that they aren't in pockets of telcos

It’s a problem of unintended consequences. Either way it matters a ton of what happens down the road.

Should Netflix or any other company continue to pay ISPs for reliable bandwidth and smooth experience? it was around that time that Netflix started charging an extra dollar too.

two factors have been: a) tech and telecom/media are divided b) neither has delivered consistently clear messaging result: hard to sort out
