So what, do we entertain the perspectives of the Daily Stormer and James Damore? Educate me, bro.

-
Nope. Lots of opinions that aren’t Damore or white nationalist are being suppressed. Even liberal but not the right kind of liberal opinions.
-
Most of Silicon Valley disagreed, when Thiel said women should never have gotten the right to vote. We gave this abjectly intolerant suggestion exactly as much time and consideration as it deserved. Is this really a bad thing?
-
Nope, that’s not a bad thing either
-
We all listened to Thiel for a moment there, even though the things he was saying were pretty out-there. Then we said nah. So with that in mind, where do you see suppression of normal, non-nuts perspectives?
-
Read that whole thread. All the time.
-
Good thread, Anil was right. If these are the highly articulate YC founders you claim, then they should have no trouble looking at H1B data and coming up with a persuasive point or two against the program. Maybe they just don’t like to be disagreed with.
-
That’s exactly the point though. If you go against the status quo your career can be in danger. I saw very explicit, undeniable examples of that. Perhaps it’s like sexual harassment - just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it’s not there.

I wouldn’t say half of what I do if I weren’t pseudonymous.

I’m jealous of that often

Where is this from?

I’ve read this a few times and it seems like the bulk of it is talking about social correctness (like maybe he’s a damore supporter?) but then he tries to save himself by using a quote about fuel rods in a nuclear submarine

-
He’s privy to stuff that shouldn’t be talked about publicly, but undeniably fits that description. He pretty publicly called out Damore.

Wow James Damore has really improved his writing skills

Same thing happens in conservative bubbles.
-
It’s not the same. If I say I think prostitution, gambling, and all drugs should be legalized in UT - the most R state - I make no social or professional risks. Having spent months in SV and NYC, I know it’s nowhere close.

After five years here, I have to say this reads as very subjective. I feel collaboration and calling people on their mess is a common practice here.

As much as I love the Bay Area, and I do, this is spot on. I've been told numerous times that I'm foolish to continue using my real identity here and have non-conforming views. Diversity, supposedly a goal, is hard to find in political or religious belief.
