Bay Area could build a million more apartments and easily fill all of them. Easily. And by the time they are built, they'd need a few million more.

I only know a few engineers that live alone. Most have 3+ roommates. All are paying $2000+ rent. Not to mention all the people who leave California because of housing costs.

Lower burn rate of talented people who all dream of starting something. More disposable income to put into local economies. Seems like such a good thing instead of making landlords richer. Spread that wealth.

Build it where? You have to either weasel past safety requirements or steal from public parks to find 'buildable' lots in the Bay Area.

No, but Japan does, and it also has Tokyo. Engineers, architects and city planners exist for a reason, and they don’t have a problem with 4-5 story buildings in the Bay Area.

Am I the only one who sees the irony of high tech firms that don't allow telecommuting over the Internet so that the Bay Area woudn't have the housing crunch so bad in the first place?
