I think to encourage people to not get laser focused on one particular idea or model, since the idea may need to change slightly or significantly before it becomes viable, and it’s easy for new founders to get tunnel vision.

Things originally said as corrective hyperbole are often later repeated as simple truths. Hence, it's better to say what one actually means.
-
Sure - to be clearer (easier with 280c, for better or worse), I agree the maxim “the idea doesn’t matter” is indeed nuts. It’s more “Until receiving plenty of feedback from your target market proving your hypothesis, be open to changing or updating your idea.”
-
"Update your idea based on market feedback." Compact clarity is better than sloppy hype.
-
Sure, but I thought the question was about the motivation behind the statement. In any case, I also agree that brevity is indeed generally better.

Innovation used to be management+invention, now it's management+management. Engineer and science free innovation. The one person company, the CEO.

This idea exhausts me. Ideas are hierarchically more important than execution. That doesn’t mean that effective execution isn’t important either.
-
“The idea doesn’t matter” is, in fact, an idea.

This has been the case for a while, it's not like it's "started" recently. It's like "fail fast:" it no longer makes sense and people say it because it is acceptable.

I do think I’d rather have a better execution team than idea team. Certainly both are needed. “0-1” ideas are amazing but rare and it’s not like those ideas create inertia; often they are mocked and it’s execution that keeps them alive and successful. Tesla is a great example.

Most VC advice is bipolar. Either something is all that matters or doesn’t matter at all.

Corollary ... “Talk is Cheap”. Ideas are vapor until built or executed ... and many fail during this step.

People who want to diminish the hopes and dreams of others, so that they may use their energy as hedging for their own pursuits: “If I don’t succeed, I can at least succeed by making sure others don’t.”
