It’s kind of insane how infrequently we consider trade school a viable alternative to a degree when the goal is “get job skills” https://twitter.com/clayroutledge/status/920135218002001921 …

To be clear: I have nothing against a well-rounded or liberal arts education. It just doesn’t make sense for it to be the only way

Probably, but now 99% of people use those words pretty much interchangeably, so they lose distinction

agree completely. Part of the reason I love Lambda school is now maybe we can get serious about that distinction.

I had counselors tell me I was selling my Ss short. Trade school was a good fit. My friends work in the trades. Nothing wrong with it.

Yes, it is. This always bothered me when I was teaching in the States. I would tell my Ss and their Ps there is no shame in trade schools.

Plus, most of my actual work skills have little to do with my degrees.

But the real insanity is construing a college education as job training. College is suposed to teach much more than that.

Or even just going to work right out of high school. Four years of work experience beats a four year liberal arts degree any day.

No, it does not. Liberal Arts majors hv higher annual salaries (on average) than high school grads. Can't b swapped w/ on the job experience
