Watching San Francisco proactively kill the goose that lays the golden egg is fascinating and terrifying. It's an ongoing battle of network effects of tech vs regressive policies, and the network effects are weakening over time.https://twitter.com/garrytan/status/1062726245903872003 …

it won't end well for SF but it'll probably be healthier for the country as a whole

minority sees change as economic colonialism, and seek to make the local conditions so bad the “colonialists” won’t be able to stay. Wrong on a lot, but that appears to be the mindset. Eg keep the mission dirty enough that yuppies won’t want to come.

The cultural rnd lab that was SF in the 60s to 90s depicted in Season if the Witch was a gem (and sometimes horror show). That *is* being lost. Those trying to save it are counter-intuitively (to them) just making it worse, though.

This is a huge transfer of wealth from tech to landlords if you ask me. Think of what tech workers could do with all that extra income if they didn't have to spend so much on housing.

I am sure there is plenty of stuff about this, but I would be really interested in understanding what’s actually preventing a change of policy.
