The worst part of opening an office in Utah is hearing people say "Silicon Slopes"
-
-
Silicon Slopes as an organization is doing great events locally, good community building. However, the name feels derivative and inaccurate when used as a name for the state or region.
-
The name isn’t’ meant to inspire anyone with boots on the ground in Utah. It’s for the press. And the press understand how to write about “the next Silicon Valley”. They don’t know how to write about the beehive. It’s smart to plug into the broader narrative for national coverage
-
I think they’ll know how to write about the beehive in the next couple years. You won’t be able to not hear about it in my opinion.

In the meantime, welcome to Utah

I agree with that but there is value to having a bit more of an identity than just Utah itself. I’m torn about it and don’t have the exact answer. I just know I cringe every time I hear Silicon Slopes and know there’s something better out there than that.

Utah: The Land of Milk and Money (alliterative and biblical, double points)
What's the core concept? SV's a hub of capital & technical innovation, and semiconductors! What's at Utah's core and should Utah be the ones to coin the name? Is it like giving yourself a nickname?
