A Lambda School grad just slacked me about how excited he is to actually be able to pay off his $60k in student loans (now that he has a job post-Lambda). You’re welcome for now, student lenders, but if there’s one thing I do in my life it will be to make you irrelevant.

The productivity loss of sending 5 million students/year through 4 yrs of school while they rack up expensive debt as they start their careers is a human tragedy. Even if 25% of it is unnecessary that’s 1.25 million years of wasted time compounded by debt *every year*.

Pretty much. I expect to never get out of debt in my lifetime.

How much debt do you have?

Two masters degrees, near six figures in debt, couldn't get steady work to save my life out of school. I'm making it work now, but I'm also pretty routinely pulling crazy overtime weeks.

What’s your income? That’s a very manageable amount of debt if you can get your income up

That's what I'm in the process. In the past year, my income has doubled because I got a steady job and I've been picking up more and more lucrative gigs while freelancing. You don't prepare for it while you're in school, though, so you leave school with little support.

It's awful but there are ways to deal. Transfer all student debt to loans dischargeable in bankruptcy (CCs & personal debt refinancing) then find a way to lower taxable income to near zero & just declare. In five years nobody will care what you did to discharge your student debt.

I am a giant fan of Lamda, but you can't believe that the *entire* point of college is to prepare for a career, one of 6-10 that we will have in life

I have a solution to the issue of debt. Get the GI Bill by joining the military ;). Not all school is a waste of time. You do learn a lot if you are willing to put the time into it. I feel that people are just to impatient these days and expect immediate results and easy handouts

It's insane. I've gone the route of taking advantage of my companies tuition reimbursement program, but that has meant five years of school to complete a 2-year MBA program. So much opportunity cost. Lambda's business model is the answer to so many problems.
