except in life sciences and deep tech where it takes time and there's lots of learning, trial & error, and testing :)
-
Sounds like it’s even more important there

Sadly in many areas, Sand Hill Rd doesn't understand that.... still.... despite so many failures....

"things that can be fixed and the wisdom to know which is which" There is some prayer hidden in here.

There needs to be a set of guidelines outlining what can be broken and what cannot be compromised just for rapid growth. Long-term and sustainable thinking is underrated and undervalued in startups culture.

The truth is... If you can't get to product market fit and active use then your technical debt won't matter anyway. You have to build to change AND get somewhere meaningful as fast as you can. ;)
-
This is everything wrong with startup culture
-
Definitely NOT advocating for sloppy engineering or quality. You have to build to be able to experiment though and be ok with emergent design. Leaning on automation and componentization has definitely helped us go faster with less of the "breaking things".
-
Definitely agree that's a real issue. For a lot of us though and we're personally invested (time, effort and emotion). We're just trying to do the best we can to build great products and support our teams, customers and investors.
-
Totally, I feel the same

Agree, as long as the things that break are internal to the co, which we can adjust & improve Not, if what breaks is fundamentally critical to society or society itself Love the
@LambdaSchool mission but to think $400B is worth the neg impact on a whole society...just wrongThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Possibly a cool saying for inexperience. Can be a strategy but let's not make it cool. Seems like a culture issue / bad habits would result.

Break your own things, mainly. People keep thinking it's about malignly breaking the world.

I mostly agree. I just wish it better encapsulated "Move fast, break things and learn." But yes, at a startup you need a move fast, ask question later mentality. Obviously, this is dependent on the market/industry you are in as some have much larger risk profiles.

I still believe that “ privatize profits, socialize losses” is the perfect market principle.
