I just interviewed a @LambdaSchool applicant who had taken javascript at community college. She got a B but felt like she didn't really understand or retain it. After taking our Intro class one night, she ran downstairs to her husband and shouted "I understand for loops!!!!"

She didn't understand a for loop? Right.

I took many coding classes at community colleges(intro 101 in java, intro 101 in C, 102 java, JS/jquery, advanced JS, html/css, jquery mobile) and I was almost always near the top of the class. You learn (and retain) more in the first 2 weeks of lambda than all those put together

I just helped a buddy get into lambda about a month ago, he had taken 1 class last semester in Texas community college. Intro to programming was C++ there. He retained none of it and said every student struggled immensely while the teacher just read from the (very outdated) book.
