Sales. There’s no clear path for how people come up in a sales career, other than getting started as a junior BD rep and seeing whether it’s for you. After that, there are no meaningful credentials in the field. Every B2B tech company needs great sales communicators.

There is a science to it: law of reciprocity, law of fears (own words, being lied too, missing out), psychology.

IBM taught mainframe and minicomputer sales professionals for six months to a year. Some product knowledge but lots of psychology and persuasion, interpersonal skills, time and pipeline discipline, economics and finance. Steal their curriculum. See also government contract bidev.

Actuarial science would be a good one. They make a killing like programmers and I don't think it's that much harder to learn. Just applied probability & statistics. Think the employers are pretty stodgy so you'd have your work cut out getting the first few hired ...

It's a walled-garden profession. Very hard to get a job without passing certain exams and getting the right internships -- which is why pay is so high.

You nailed it. As a credentialed actuary, I see the Lamda model as the perfect fit for training students for the actuarial industry since getting into the industry is highly dependent on the structured exam process. Not a huge market though.
