Thoughts on the 529 savings plan? I have an 8 month old...thinking there are better options now and certainly in 18 years...
-
That’s been my bet as well, but I don’t know

Any bootcamp courses starting in the summer? Hoping to start lambda next year.

What about a sophomore thinking about joining Lambda simultaneously?

-
I didn't go to lambda but if it's anything like the bootcamp I went to, there is zero way you can do both. If there is, it's not healthy.
-
Yeah, you'd get crushed. You could maybe get away with the part-time course if you have a low credit load, but Lambda is really built for people trying to move to a job as quickly as possible
-
The people who got jobs in my school were spending 60+ hours a week. No idea how people had time for other things. Family? No idea.
-
Yikes! I guess hustle factors in here too but nonetheless in a low course-load semester. Will be
it in the upcoming semesters fo sho! -
I'd say if you are applying to a coding school, be prepared to give it your 100%. Why not take a semester off?
-
That’s interesting 1. Are most coding schools formally structured or do they allow one to go through stuff on own pace? 2. Can I link this up with relevant course-load for more of a ‘two birds, one stone’ kind of synergy?

-
Keep in mind I went to Devmountain, not Lambda. No, they are structured out. It's all scheduled. Man, take a semester off. I 100% guarantee that a coding school will provide you more value than any semester at college. Don't try to mix the two.

I am so happy to be French and not pay $40k for college
Paying less than €300/y (2-Year technical degree). Public Engineering college is less than €650/y for some colleges.
Outside the price, they are lots of things to improve, that’s why Lambda is needed
-
You’re going to pay all of that back through taxes later kiddo
-
Don’t tell me that
Yes that’s the French system I will have to pay taxes for that later
I think college students cost €8000 to the government so I will pay a lot more than that. At least I don’t have student loans -
Which is exactly my point - I’m countries where education is socialized, there’s an outsized impact on lower income brackets, but higher ones will pay way more over their lifetimes than in the US
-
Yes that’s exactly that, I think it only works if it suits the country culture. I don’t think it would work in the US
-
Aha, why do you say that?
-
It might be a personal opinion, but IMO you are more about doing it yourself, with « the American Dream », meritocracy In France, we are more about everyone has the same chance, with taxes, financial help, healthcare,...
-
I would also add a few things: 1) the american “way” does in some ways rely on equality of opportunity (whether that exists is a different story) 2) more than independence: also interpersonal aggression and competition
