"Launch a high-tech career from home in 6-12 months", serious?

Yeah. I believe it, for various reasons (good and bad).

Most of higher ed is a signalling good; lot of rest is selection effect. If you dispense with former (customers who want to break into white-collar work) & and have an institution incentivised to attract only those who can thrive there, that goes a long way.

Universities are not incentivised to do a good job with undergrad knowledge transfer either, so they don’t. Wasteful to destructive in many ways IMO. Very short half-life of IT knowledge beyond basics (basically just math in silicon drag) is mostly bad but here it helps as well.

Phrased differently: If a BSc is 4 yrs for total newcomers and 12mo are just too little, that’s the same as saying nothing could be 4x more effective than an undergrad uni education. I don’t buy that.

Maybe I've to think outside the box. Saying that in between teaching students web dev today. Uni education problem is that everything is taught in parallel. People learn stuff after they would have needed it. If organized in a more bottom-up way, I'm sure it'd be more efficient.

This is efficiency. The other thing is, is uni education (in sw dev) effective? Let's say it could be more effective. There's no value in teaching PHP, JS, GO and Python in one lecture in one semester. It's name dropping...

Still, to learn to code takes a lot of practice. You won't learn to code without a lot of practice. So this sets a time constraint as well. So, I think launching a high tech career in 6 months... well, you can only scratch the surface. You'll be a junior in 6 months, yeah.

But it's difficult to believe you can get into those high positions that this organization seemingly promises.

4 weeks of prep work + 30 weeks of our full course is over 1500 hours, with no context switching. It’s absolutely possible, and we don’t get paid unless/until it happens

Austen, do you have/had any Austrian students yet? If so – are they all going to SV or are they looking for jobs in Austria, too?

Less than 5% of our students are from the Bay Area and less than 5% are hired in the Bay Area. No Australian students, as they’d have to pay $20k upfront and stay up in the middle of the night
