Is the housing crisis in the Bay Area a "long-standing problem"?

Rent in SF has gone up on average 6.6% per year since 1956:https://observer.com/2016/05/a-guy-just-transcribed-30-years-of-for-rent-ads/ …

Yeah, what I'm getting at is the solution to the Bay Area housing crisis *is* simple and people aren't doing it for a handful of self-interested, narrow-minded reasons, some of which I *do* in fact consider evil (but your normative mileage may vary).

If you think the solution to a long-standing problem is simple and people aren’t doing it because incentives are misaligned you may be right

You *really* need to read Inadequate Equilibria. It's basically about, when are you probably wrong in this situation, and when might you be right?

Right on, almost always people are stupid and evil *and* the long-standing problem is far from simple ;)

Agree. I feel it’s ususally because the solution is very hard to execute successfully and people have either a) not tried or b) tried and failed without you knowing about it.

I don’t think that the way to fix the DMV is easy—but I still think it’s a problem that should have been fixed by now.

And i am sending this from Vermont. We have 650k people. Still have lines. An hour wait to pay taxes seems nuts when I should enter the vin, a picture of it , and then how much I paid with a signed affidavit.

I don't know ... simple is really really hard. Maybe you mean trivial.

It's not that they are evil, they are just captured playing a game where the logic of political survival requires ethically dubious actions.

Nobody is mentioning an elephant in the room. A generation who represent a sociopathic anomaly. Literally google “anti social personality disorder” and tell me if that doesn’t apply to Baby Boomers as a generation. What do you do with a sociopath that has an incurable condition?

Climate Change or Bay Area housing? If Climate Change, then the people not doing it are definitely evil (Trump &
@GOP pols backed by fossil fuel money) or stupid (Trump & GOP supporters, voting against their own long-term interest.) -
He's talking about Bay Area housing. What's your take on that?

That it’s hard isn’t mutually exclusive with people being stupid or evil
